It has been said that prayer is when you talk to God and meditation is when you listen to God. Most of us have so much going on in our lives and minds that we can’t hear clearly the direction coming from God. During this intro to meditation class, you will learn how to move past the constant chatter in your mind in order to access the peace that surpasses all understanding.
The next intro to meditation class is Monday 3/3/14 from 6:30p to 8:30p.

Due to the constant inquiries from people who have seen what meditation has done for my life, I’ve decided to offer an intro to meditation class. This is the perfect opportunity to learn while you practice. The purpose of the class is to teach you the skills to begin your own meaningful meditation practice at home; while providing you with a Sacred Meditation experience during the class. If you’ve been struggling to access inner peace, joy, clarity and direction for your life, this class is for you.
WHAT TO EXPECT
During the introduction, you will learn: 1) what meditation is, 2) what it isn’t, and 3) how to practice effectively. You will then be lead as a group into a guided meditation experience. You will also receive a link to download Selena J’s Sacred Meditation Music for free.
The class will be conducted in a sacred space (with candle light and music) at a secret location downtown St. Louis. Your instructor will be Selena J, a meditation practitioner since 2000.

1) Neuroscientists have discovered that meditation can stimulate significant increases in activity in several parts of the left prefrontal cortex—an area of the brain associated with positive emotions, such as happiness, enthusiasm, joy and self-control.
Meditators also showed a decreased level of activity in the parts of the brain related to negative emotions, such as depression, self-centredness and a lack of happiness or satisfaction.
Meditation also produces a calming effect in the amygdala, the part of the brain that acts as a trigger for fear and anger.
2) Meditation and mindfulness techniques are used by a wide range of people, from business leaders, medical professionals, schoolchildren and prison inmates, to lawyers, military personnel, expectant mothers, Olympic athletes and sports stars.
3) It has been discovered that the brain has the ability to change its structure and function—strengthening and expanding circuits that are frequently used, and weakening and shrinking those that are rarely engaged. This flexibility in the brain is what is called ‘neuroplasticity’, and explains why meditation can have a lasting effect on the way we process thoughts and emotions.
