Howdy lovelies!  Monday (3/26/12) morning, many of us in the Holistic Health, Fitness & Life Support Group will begin a process that could very well change our lives forever.  We have decided that we are committed to feeling better and are taking the actions to make that happen.

This two-week juice fast is going to catapult you and your entire life into another level!  I’ve been fasting for the past 12 years (on and off of course), and have experienced the amazing benefits of cleansing the body and allowing it to rest and heal from the over-eating and the toxins that we consume daily.  I vaguely remember the first time I attempted a fast, but I remember that it wasn’t that easy to stay committed to what I was initially so excited about!  There are a few keys that I’d like to share that I’ve learned about fasting.

  1. Information is a game changer
  2. You have to be committed to your fasting purpose
  3. Will Power only goes so far

Information Is A Game Changer

In 2000, my friend Dedrick told me about a book called “Heal Thyself” by Queen Afua.  At that time in my life, I had been searching for inner peace, happiness and a greater connection with God.  Health wasn’t on my mind. My longing was to be close to God, so close that my fears would fade and my purpose would be revealed to me, leading me to inner peace and happiness.  And as fate would have it, I met Dedrick who introduced me to a book that would change my life forever.  Queen Afua introduced me to HOLISTIC HEALTH.  In that book, she spoke about healing your ENTIRE life through your diet.  She taught me that what you eat, affects not just your body, but also affects what and how you think, your emotional state, as well as your spiritual clarity.

I learned then, that in order to elevate myself to greater spiritual understanding, inner peace and happiness, then I needed to clean house, my house…this body that houses my vital organs, this body that allows me to be on this earth in physical form to carry out some sort of divine purpose.  Holistic health means that everything is interdependent within us; mind, body, spirit, emotions.  Everything, affects everything else.  We see this in the human body, we see this in our families, in our communities and in our society at large; everything affects everything else.  Nothing is independent.  Everything is connected, even if and when we don’t see the connections.

I am the type that will try what I believe in.  Everything that I have studied that resonates within me as beneficial and good, I will try it to find out for myself.  And so I followed her instructions regarding detoxing, juicing, fasting, cleansing my colon, and all that fun stuff and experienced the results that she said I would; I began to elevate spiritually!  I started reading more books on holistic health, Transcendental Meditation and Ancient Egyptian Ideology.  I also instantly became a vegetarian (although I began as a vegan, just couldn’t keep that up for long) once I learned about how meat takes so long to digest that it begins rotting inside of your body, polluting your organs and such.  Also, learning how steroids and other chemicals that are pumped into the animals remain in the meat that we consume and is linked to cancer and other ailments.  You cannot pollute the body and not be polluting every aspect of your life too.  The way you feel physically has a great deal to do with how you feel emotionally, how sharp and agile your mind is, and how clear your spiritual channels are for receiving divine guidance and experiencing inner peace.  Without this information, I would have not had the inspiration to change how I ate, which in turn changed my life.  So we must bathe ourselves in this information constantly, here and there is not enough if we really want to make lasting changes in our lives.  Do the research and empower yourself with the information you need to succeed in this!

You Have to Be Committed to Your Fasting Purpose

When you decide to do any kind of fast, you have to have a clear vision of why you are doing it.  If you don’t have a reason strong enough, when it starts getting tough, you won’t be able to keep your commitment to yourself.

So the first thing you should do before you begin any fast is to WRITE DOWN why you are doing it.  Yes, you MUST write it down.  When you transfer your goals from your mind on to paper, you transfer them from the mental realm to the physical realm. That is a powerful gesture and an imperative step in the manifestation process of any goal.  Writing it down puts you one step closer to making your dreams or goals a reality and the more detailed you are, the better you will be able to achieve your goals.  It’s also a good idea to get a juice feast journal and document daily what you are experiencing physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.  You are going to have emotional and other types of releases and breakthroughs during the juice feast.

Will Power Only Goes So Far

Sometimes, you can have all the will in the world, but if you don’t invite God, your higher self, in to be a part of what you’re doing, it still won’t be enough.  Your higher self is the God in you.  And when you acknowledge that and welcome its influence in your life, you open up a whole new world for yourself, a world of infinite, endless power; a world where the ‘miraculous’ happens.

Now The Juicing Part

There are several juice recipes out there that you can follow for specific results, or you can create your own concoction.  When I first started juicing, I just went to the store, bought a bunch of fruits and veggies and started experimenting with different recipes.  If you want more structure, allow Dan to help you out!

For Monday, I bottled up 6 bottles of a variety of ingredients.  I made each drink different.  The total ingredients are kale, celery, spinach, cilantro, carrots, apples, oranges, cucumber, beets, lemons and pears.  The base for each drink is what Dan calls the hydration recipe consisting of cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, cilantro and lemon.  I add a fruit or two to each drink to sweeten it up but those veggies are in each drink.  Check out Dan (video below) explain and then subscribe to his youtube video for more recipes!

For the bottles, I went to Target looking for mason jars to no avail.  I ended up buying a 6 pack of lipton tea in glass bottles, on sale for about $5.  I just poured the tea down the drain and the bottles are perfect!

When I get up, I will drink 20 ounces of spring water (bottled at the source!!!).  I am getting my water bottled up at a natural spring every two weeks for a really great price through the guy Shawn Stevenson gets his water from.  Its important that throughout the day you drink your water in addition to the juice.  Think of it like this, each juice bottle is your meal and the water is your in-between-meals snack! If you do this, you should not be hungry.  You may want to eat food, just for the taste, but you should not be hungry.  If you start to feel hungry, you’ve waited too long too drink your meal or you aren’t drinking enough water.

Then about an hour or so later, I will have my first bottle of juice.  Over the next few hours, I will drink another 20 ounces of water and have my second bottle of juice anywhere from 2 to 3 hours after my first bottle.  Then for the next 2 to 3 hours, I’ll drink my 20 ounces of water.  Alternate like that all day and you shouldn’t feel hungry.  You will get enough nutrients from your juice to keep you energized throughout the day so you are NOT MISSING ANYTHING!!!

***Key Things to Remember***

1.  Make sure you make all of your juice for the entire day, before you get your day going, so that you are prepared.

2.  This is an all-natural fruit and veggie juice feast!  No store bought juice, not even Naked.  Shawn pointed out that those juices will not be alive and so you won’t get much benefit.

3.  Juice your own ORGANIC fruits and veggies and store in glass jars or bottles with air tight lids for up to 24 hours only.

4.  Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer is a great place to start for a juicer.  You can find them at Target, Wal-Mart, or you can order online, http://www.powerjuicer.com/power-juicer-shop.php

5.  For protein, add a teaspoon of either spirulina, blue green algae, chlorella or vitamineral green powder to your juice (go to Shawn’s store for more details at http://www.theshawnstevensonmodel.com/store/) or you can get them at golden grocer, see link under ‘resources.’

6.  If for any reason you break down and bring more than juice to your daily juice feast (food), don’t beat yourself up!  Just get right back on track as soon as you can, preferably the same day.  Don’t feel like your entire day is ruined if you eat something.  You can get back on track the same day.

I’m enjoying this so much! We learned today that it takes quite a bit of veggies and fruits to sustain us for a day. We both ended up hungry as a hostage because we didn’t make enough. Because it’s two of us it’s a bit different. Today’s potion was wonderful! We had purple carrots (& regular carrots), spinach, celery, cucumbers, apples, pears, mango, an orange, a few blueberries and lemon. This evening before I came to work we made a bigger batch that included cucumbers, celery (a few too many this time), beets, radishes, purple & regular carrots, papaya, pears, apples, lemon, ginger & Camu Camu. We also learned that we should probably mix the Camu Camu powder well into a little water before trying to mix it into the juice! :/ Lesson learned! This is such an awesome experience. We are learning a lot and having fun doing it! We also just started with the living water last night as well. We both ALREADY feel the difference~

Yes, I’m spending about $50 every other day. Fortunately, we are forming a co-op! We will soon be able to buy organic produce in bulk at a ridiculously low price for a group rate. I’ll be posting details soon. Glad you’re having fun though!! That’s important! I only had 3 bottles of juice yesterday and a little less than a gallon of spring water and was cool. Today (day 2), I’ve had the same, but less water. Feeling groovy.

  5. Kukata Kali says:

Oh, and yes I realize that our ingredients are a bit off the chain! We have a book of recipes that we are going to look at tomorrow, but the hail marry method sure has been fun! :)

  6. Tabitha says:

Thank you for this information. I have done a fast from food before but never a juice fast. I haven’t started yet; I was preoccupied with work stuff! But I will be joining in at some point this week. Can’t wait and good luck to everyone starting this journey! :)

  7. Vanessa says:

Day 2 was a sluggish day for me but I made it threw. What I have learn today is that I can’t workout hard like I would if I was eating food. I have to take it easy. I just finish my juice & water for lunch now I have some energy it’s time for a 30 minute walk.

  8. Chris Reed says:

Some good information on juicing.I have a juicer but I only used it a few times-I’m dusting it off now. The longest I’ve fasted was 3 days w/ a lemon cleanse(organic maple syrup, cayenne pepper & lemons).Dawg SJ 2weeks? OK,I’m going to do this…

  9. Kukata Kali says:

Is anyone having bowel movements? We both have noticed that we have been urinating a lot but nothing out of the back end~

  10. Leon says:

I just watched the video that you posted on facebook and those were some powerful testimonies. I’m thinking about starting a juice fast this sunday.I just need a fraction of their results and i’m good!!!

  11. Denisha Morgan says:

Hey everyone…I attempted to start yesterday and I failed. I made to large mason jars and took them to work, but they were the same type of juice. I was sick of drinking it by the end of the night. I honestly didn’t realize how expensive this was going to be. I had to use regular fruits and veggies, because I didn’t have enough organic.

Does anyone have a good supplement they are using to get their protein. I called a local herb shop and was informed Blue-Green Algae was $50 for a 1lb container. Do we need that much? I really needing some help. Does anyone else have any suggestions to something that is different and maybe tastes good as well. I didn’t purchase the Blue-Green Algae. Thanks.

    • La Wanda Glenn says:

Hello I started juicing Tues and I have just been mixing things up. You can get some recipes online. Also blue green algae can be purchased in caps or powder. I bought a 2 oz jar from the vitamine shoppe for $30. Hope this helps..

With folks having common sinus problems this time of year I thought this was great info. If you haven’t been juicing radishes, maybe you should. From the “Livestong” website:

A radish juice cocktail, prepared by mixing equal parts of cucumber, radish and green pepper juices, may be beneficial for sinus congestion, gallbladder and liver health, notes Health-Care-Clinic.org.

If any of you are like us, with spending all the loot that we are on veggies, we’ve been thinking about getting our garden together. If you are interested in planting organic, I found two websites that sell organic seeds. Here ya go!
